Rainy is the new unknown — another strand, another person who needs something from Sam, another connection that will cost something before it gives anything back. The rope as both bond and tether is Death Stranding's central image and DS2 keeps turning it. Sam is not sure, finding her, whether he is being pulled toward someone or anchored to something. The distinction matters less than the fact that the rope exists and he keeps holding it.
