The ghost legend has grown enough that Mongol soldiers react to Jin's presence before he engages them. Fear is now a tool as tangible as the blade, and the game explores what it costs to wield it. Ghosts, in the Japanese tradition Jin is drawing on, are defined by their attachment — to unfinished business, to people left behind, to things that couldn't be let go.

What Jin fears leaving behind is Tsushima itself, the specific place and the people in it. But increasingly he also fears leaving behind his uncle without resolution, without a conversation that neither of them knows how to have. The ghost fears the living more than the dead. It always has.
