Red Dead Redemption 2 (Part 3)

The tension between Dutch's philosophy and the reality of what the gang is doing — the high-minded talk about freedom and the wilderness and the refusal of civilization, against the specific violence and compromise that keeping the gang alive requires. Honor is heavy in this world not because it is rewarded but because it costs something every time you try to hold it, every time the situation argues for the expedient choice and you decline. Light on mercy is not the game's condemnation of the era. It is Arthur's recognition that the world he is riding through does not return what it receives.

The session is RDR2 at its most morally dense — the decisions accumulating, the honor meter tracking something that only matters to the person maintaining it.
