The Last of Us Part II (Part 16)
The underground sections. Abby in the spaces between the factions, the physical spaces of the city that neither WLF nor Seraphites fully controls. The eyes open and the heart closed are both survival adaptations β one practical, one psychological. The practical one is learnable. The psychological one is what the game is interrogating, because a closed heart is also a heart that cannot let Lev in, and letting Lev in is what makes Abby human again.
The sleeping is not peaceful. It is the maintenance of readiness, the refusal to allow full rest because full rest implies trust and trust is what this world punishes. Abby is learning to sleep this way and simultaneously being asked by the game to unlearn it, to find the specific exception that the closed heart has to make.
