Grief is not a journey with a destination — it does not move toward resolution in the way a physical journey moves toward a place. It moves in circles, or in spirals, or in the relentless forward motion of someone who is afraid to stop because stopping would mean acknowledging where she is.

The forgetting she is walking toward is not peaceful. It is the forgetting of the initial purpose being replaced by the immediate necessity of the next step, the next threat, the next choice. By the time the walking stops, she will have forgotten enough of why she started that the ending will not feel like what she was looking for.
