Death Stranding: Higgs Attacks Sam

The birth on the beach is the game's most metaphysically precise moment β€” the child that could not be conceived in the living world conceived and delivered in the space between, the biological impossibility resolved through the cosmological impossibility of the Stranding. Mama survives because the beach allows what the living world refused. The cost is the cord that binds her to the dead, the BT child, the tether that makes every subsequent session of her life a negotiation between staying and crossing.

Higgs attacking Sam in this session is the game making clear that the antagonist is not interested in the network or the connections it is building. He is interested in the extinction β€” the final voidout, the sixth mass extinction, the completion of the Stranding's work. The attack is not a setback. It is the game announcing that the building and the dismantling are happening simultaneously, that Sam is connecting the country while Higgs is working toward its uncreation.
