Jin was born into a tradition that knew exactly what he was supposed to be, and Tsushima required him to become something that tradition had no name for. The flame is both the ghost and the man — what burns away and what is left.

He died for the island as something else. The game does not tell us whether that something else was better. It tells us it was necessary, and that necessity, honestly faced, is its own kind of honor.
