Ghost of Tsushima (Part 18)

Lord Shimura and Jin face each other with everything between them made clear. The vow Shimura wants Jin to honor is the samurai code, the tradition, the form that defines them both as what they are. The vow Jin has made β€” to protect Tsushima by whatever means necessary β€” has already broken the first one. Both men understand this. Neither pretends otherwise.

The duel is not about winning. It is about what the men Jin and Shimura are require of each other at the end. Ghost of Tsushima handles it without flinching β€” no resolution that lets either character off the hook, no reading of the moment that makes it clean. The broken vow stays broken. What matters is what you do after.
