Ghost of Yotei (Part 4)

The names of the six are on her list. Her name is what she is leaving on theirs. Atsu as the ghost's name β€” the specific person behind the myth, the woman who survived what happened sixteen years ago and has been working toward this ever since. The silence learning her name is the reversal the session enacts: the hunters becoming the haunted, the names she carries becoming the names that carry her.

Ghost of Yotei uses the two-way ghost mythology deliberately. In traditional Japanese belief, ghosts are defined by their attachment to the living β€” the unfinished business, the people they cannot release. Atsu is the ghost who is still alive, still finishing the business. The six men are the ones who will soon be unable to release her.
