Snow remembering blood is the landscape as witness, the natural world holding the record of what happens in it, the mountain's permanent presence as the thing that was there before and will be there after.

Hiding no cowards is the moral test the environment provides — in the cold, in the open, where there is nowhere to run from what you are, the mountain sees clearly. Atsu has been moving through this environment for seven sessions and the mountain has seen her clearly since the beginning.
