Mortal Kombat 1 (Part 2)

Three hours — the campaign's main arc, the roster of fighters positioned within the New Era's conflicts, the kombatants navigating a timeline that has changed their relationships but not the specific violence their bloodlines carry. The Mortal Kombat tournament as the game's core ritual is both narrative device and philosophical statement: the wrath of the tournament is the wrath of the franchise itself, the spectacle of consequence that the series has been enacting since 1992.

Only victory surviving is the genre's bare truth. The fighting game has no mercy mechanic. What it has is the continuation, the next match, the fighter who keeps standing long enough to reach the end.
