The Peruvian jungle as antagonist and instructor — the environment that Shadow uses most effectively, the specific hostility of the natural world as a counter to the human hostility of Trinity and Dominguez. The jungle does not have a political agenda. It simply maintains the conditions it maintains, and the things that cannot survive those conditions do not survive them. Lara learns to wear death by becoming something the jungle recognizes as equivalent to itself — not alien, not prey, but adapted.

Wearing death is both the stealth mechanic and the thematic argument. Lara in the jungle at her most effective is indistinguishable from the jungle itself — moving through it, using it, becoming the threat that hunts rather than the intruder being hunted.
