Tomb Raider: Introduction
Lara takes the dagger. The tsunami hits. Shadow of the Tomb Raider does something the previous games in the trilogy declined to do — it makes Lara directly responsible for the catastrophe, and it makes that responsibility immediate and visible. The world bleeding for her theft is not metaphor. It is the literal consequence of her action, the people dying in the flood that her choice set in motion.
The introduction is the game refusing the comfortable version of the explorer narrative. Lara is not the hero who arrives to prevent the catastrophe. She is the one who started it, and what follows is the story of someone who has to keep moving through the consequences of her own action, toward a resolution that the action may have made impossible.
