The rescue missions — Lara working backward from her own survival toward the survival of others, the team members scattered across the island, each rescue a step deeper into Yamatai's geography and history. Digging deeper into something ancient is both literal and experiential: the tombs descend, the island's layers accumulate, the deeper Lara goes the older the thing she is inside of.
