The Focus device and the first real glimpse of what the underground holds — the ruins below the ruins, the datapoints that suggest a world Aloy's people have no framework for understanding. The machines are visible and dangerous and explicable within the tribe's theology. The silence of the people who built them is different: there are no voices, no instructions, only the records of a civilization that knew exactly what it was doing and did it anyway and is no longer here to explain why.

Aloy is the person the silence was waiting for. She does not know this yet. The session is the game establishing the investigation before she understands what she is investigating.
