The Devil state as the elimination of the specifically human qualities that make regret possible — the attachment, the accountability, the capacity for retrospective assessment of one's actions. Devil Jin is what Jin becomes when the Devil Gene takes precedence, when the Mishima rage consumes the Kazama restraint. Burning that part away is what the Devil offers: the freedom from the weight of what has been done. Jin has spent the series refusing the offer. Devil Jin has accepted it.
